CHRISTMAS ISLAND
Christmas Island Experience
Why We’re Going
We’re heading to Christmas Island, and we’re stoked to be hosting this trip in partnership with Fly Water Travel and Christmas Island Outfitters.
This is one of those places that lives up to the hype — endless hard sand flats, serious numbers of fish, and the kind of sight fishing that keeps you switched on all day. It’s also a great option for Aussie anglers looking to escape winter and fish somewhere warm with consistently good conditions.
Expect:
- Year-round saltwater flats and wade fishing
- Giant Trevally on the flats and blue water
- Bonefish in big numbers, with shots all day
- Triggerfish, snapper, tuna, wahoo and more
- A relaxed, no-ego trip with good people and great fishing
Whether you’re new to saltwater fly or have been chasing flats fish for years, this trip is about learning, fishing hard, and enjoying the experience together.
The Fishing
Christmas Island is all about sight fishing. Most days are spent wading shallow flats, spotting fish and putting casts in front of them. Bonefish are everywhere, averaging two to three pounds, with bigger fish always a real possibility.
The trevally fishing is next level. Giant trevally are a genuine target here, and the local guides are some of the best in the business when it comes to putting anglers in front of them. There’s also the option to fish blue water for tuna, wahoo, and pelagics when conditions line up.
Fishing locations change daily based on tides and conditions. Each evening there’s a briefing to plan the following day, meaning early starts some days, later starts others — all designed to fish the best water possible.
Anglers fish two per guide, with transport to the flats by truck and outrigger.
The Guides
The guide team is small, highly experienced, and hand-picked for their ability to spot fish, stay calm under pressure, and help anglers succeed. These are guides who enjoy teaching and genuinely want you to hook fish.
This operation limits numbers to 10 anglers per week, which keeps pressure low and allows for flexibility throughout the week.
Accommodation & Food
Accommodation is simple, clean, and comfortable — a proper fish camp, not a luxury lodge. Rooms are twin-share with private bathrooms, air-conditioning, daily servicing, and space for gear. Water, soft drinks, and beer are restocked daily.
Meals are straightforward and filling, often featuring fresh local seafood (snapper, tuna, wahoo, lobster, mantis shrimp) along with chicken, pork, rice, pasta, and occasional steak. Fresh fruit and veg can be limited, so we recommend bringing snacks for the flats — bars, jerky, nuts, etc.
This is a place built around fishing hard, resting well, and getting back on the water.
